PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man thanks to two witnesses who saw him flee from a business broken into east of Punta Gorda. Deputies responded to Five Oaks Storage, 25191 Olympia Avenue at 7:26 p.m. Wednesday after two people from a nearby business called CCSO after seeing a man exit the business from a side window.

The witnesses told the deputy the burglar fled into a wooded area by Marion Avenue. A Punta Gorda Police K9 Officer responded to assist deputies and located a bicycle in a ditch by the woods. Another witness then came forward and said the man run into the home of Eric Russell Young, 41, 25505 Marion Avenue. The bicycle was positively identified by Young’s roommate as belonging to Young, but he was not at home. Both eye witnesses picked out Young in a photo lineup as the man they saw crawling out of the closed business.

At 11:40 p.m. that night, deputies returned and located Young in his home; he was arrested and charged with Burglary then transported to the Charlotte County Jail. Deputies are quite familiar with Young as this was his 19th booking into the jail and is a convicted felon. Young remains in jail on a $10,000 bond.
