LEHIGH ACRES, FL- Caught in the act.
A Lee County deputy spots a man soaked in diesel fuel, carrying a hose and a gas can, hiding behind a bulldozer at a construction site.
A Lee County sheriff's detective was driving down state road 82 when he saw something that didn't look right.
Sarah Pusateri says, "That something was a truck parked here on the side of the road without it's lights on."
The detective pulled up this driveway and shined his headlights on this bulldozer.
That's when he says he saw a man carrying a gas can and a hose.
Ramon Chao, the Safety Director for Mitchell and Stark Construction says, "The deputy found him behind this actual piece of machinery siphoning the gas."
Deputies say Omar Munoz was soaked in diesel fuel. A Spanish speaking deputy interviewed Munoz and arrested him.
Chao says, "This is a common thing that happens unfortunately during this economic time we've seen it happen more."
He says in the past entire bulldozers have vanished in the night, but says, deputies regularly patrol the area.
"I have to give kudos to lee county for catching one, and collier county has caught a bunch of them too."
He has a message for those who might attempt a theft in the future.
"The moral of the story here is you're going to get caught."
