LEE COUNTY, Fla -- A judge in Lee County has ruled a fired FGCU professor should be rehired and given back pay.

Dr. David Lounsbury was let go after an investigation found that he had students write checks directly to him for equipment used for his classes. That is a violation of university policy.

Friday, a Lee County Circuit Judge ruled Lounsbury should be rehired and give two and a half years of back pay.

A spokesperson for FGCU released a statement Monday, saying the university plans to appeal the ruling.
