Monday afternoon Micki Shirar waited anxiously for a flight to arrive from Houston.
She is nervous because her 16 year old granddaughter hope is on board that plane..
the two are meeting for the very first time.
"It scares me because she doesn't know me. Even though we've been texting back and forth and writing back and forth," she said.
Shirar hasn't spoken with her son in years.. but found her granddaughter through a chance encounter on Facebook in February.
Five months later, Hope made the trip to southwest Florida to meet her grandmother in person.
After 16 years of not knowing her father's relatives, Hope landed in fort myers full of anticipation to meet a family she didn't even know existed.
"I didn't think it was going to happen so it was pure excitement," she said.
Her mother says the chance for hope to meet her grandmother after all these years can only be described as a miracle.
"It's a door opened and a door closed because now you have questions that are answered but now
you have a new adventure to pursue," Rachel Pawlik said.
The first part of that adventure? Learning everything there is to know about each other.
"Getting to know her life and where I get the way I look from and certain things I do it's really exciting," Hope Pawlik continued.
Two women who were once strangers..are now bonded by family ties.
"I never got to see her when she was little so now I have to make up for all those years and get caught up on everything she's ever done," Shirar explained.
Micki Shirar also discovered a grandson in Texas who is about to have a child of his own.
