PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Retired Air Force Liutenant Colonel Howard Grim has never forgotten the thrills of flying. Twisting and turning through the air in a military plane in World War II.
At 93 years old, he has always dreamt of getting back in the cockpit and flying high.
"In October a volunteer through hospice agreed to take him out here to the airport just to watch the planes," said daughter Deb Howard.
"When he came back I asked him how it went and he said it was great, but I didn't get to fly," said life enhancement coordinator Teressa Misenheimer.
Brookdale Senior Living and a group called Jeremy Bloom's Wish of a Lifetime gave him a chance to re-live his glory days in uniform.
"I was just amazed when we got the phone call. I'm not sure he really believed it," Warren continued.
"I'd send a little radio command back there and you'd see the little grin grow on his face. He'd smile and kind of nod his head. His voice was very hard and soft for me to hear on the radio. Then I'd get a thumbs up in the mirror," said pilot Jim Olzacki.
As he circled over Punta Gorda Airport, Grim gave one final salute and headed home to dream about his dream come true again.
