NAPLES, Fla.- Police are investigating a automobile theft involving  Ambassador Auto Sales of Naples that took place on Tuesday.

At 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Officer Kyle Bradshaw and Ryan Schickfus responded to Ambassador Auto Sales, located at 3164 David Blvd., Naples in regards to a report of a stolen vehicle and tag.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the owner of Ambassador Auto Sales, Nicholas Cummings Garulay, and a sales consultant, Garrett Ryan Rick. Rick advised thathe had been working with a customer, known to him by Oklahoma driver's license a Justin William Durbin. Durbin spoke with Rick by phone and in person at Ambassador Auto Sales on Monday. Durbin was driving a red, 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 SUV bearing an unknown Florida tag. Durbin was interested in purchasing a vehicle and stated he was going to speak with his father, "Tom". Later in the evening, Rick was contacted via text message from phone number. The messenger stated that he was Durbin's father, "Tom" and advised Rick that he thought his son would be more interested in a Grey 2007 Bentley GT Continental, valued at $97,900.

Durbin returned to Ambassador Auto Sales on Tuesday and inspected the Bentley. He stated he was going to get a check from Chase Bank for the vehicle and set up a meeting with Rick, who brought the Bentley bearing Florida dealer tag, to the 600 Block of 5th Avenue South, Naples. Durbin met with Rick and told him that Durbin's father was upstairs at an attorney's office in meeting and began to look over the vehicle. As Rick was standing outside of the vehicle, Durbin got into the vehicle and drove away without permission and without providing Rick with any type of payment. Assuming Durbin was mistaken in thinking that he could test drive the vehicle, Rick waited approximately ten minutes and attempted to contact him on his cell phone. Durbin's cell phone went to voice mail, and Rick attempted to contact "Tom" via cell phone, which also went to voice mail. Rick went to an attorney's office in the area of the 600 block of 5th Avenue South, and asked if they knew the father or Durbin. The staff stated they did not know anyone matching the name or description of Durbin or Tom. Rick waited approximately one hour and contacted the Naples Police Department to report the vehicle and tag stolen.

Officers Bradshaw and Schickfus arrived at Ambassador Auto Sales and made contact with Rick and Garulay. They advised the police that they did not give permission for anyone to take the vehicle or attached dealer tag. They completed sworn statements expressing their desire to prosecute. Both vehicle and tag were officially reported as stolen. The Bentley was not equipped with a GPS or tracking device. A copy of the suspect's driver's license, a copy of the sales form and a photograph of the vehicle were retained as evidence.
