There is plenty happening around Southwest Florida this weekend. These are just a few of the events you can check out.
"Hands Across the Sand" is an event that spans the nation and the world. Locally, an event takes place on Saturday, June 25 along the Ft. Myers Beach Pier at noon.
At 12:00 PM in corresponding time zones, people around the world will join hands on beaches and in cities for the second annual event.
Hands Across The Sand is a movement made of people of all walks of life and crosses all borders and political affiliations. It is about supporting the advancement of clean energy sources that will sustain our planet. The movement is not about politics; it is about protecting coastal economies, oceans, marine wildlife and fisheries from the threats of expanded offshore drilling and the accidents associated with this.
The 26th annual "SummerJazz on the Gulf" concert series will kick-off at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club on Saturday, June 25, with a free concert by Pocket Change. The 6-piece band, which has a very big following in the area, will be performing for the first time at SummerJazz. The fun, free concert series, a popular tradition for many Floridians, combines a diverse selection of Jazz entertainers with beautiful Gulf views, exquisite sunsets, refreshing breezes, and a relaxing atmosphere. The concert, like all of the "SummerJazz on the Gulf" concerts, will be held from 7-10 p.m. on the resort's scenic Watkins Lawn overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Call (239) 261-2222 for additional information and directions.
Also happening this Saturday, from 4 to 10 p.m., Tropical Lodge 56 & The Hideaway Sports Bar host the Annual Downtown Ft. Myers Block Party on Dean Street. Join in for live music, a classic car show, and enjoy some barbeque! The event is also your last chance to enter for 2 tickets to an Alaska Cruise from Ft Myers. This event benefits The Children of Southwest Florida.
And finally, Today is "Take Your Dog to Work Day"! The Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites Fort Myers Airport/FGCU are joining businesses nationwide in opening their doors to employees' furry, four-legged best friends on Friday, June 24, for the 13th annual celebration of Take Your Dog To Work Day (TYDTWDay®). TYDTWDay was established by Pet Sitters International (PSI) in 1999. This annual event urges businesses around the globe to experience the joys of dogs in the workplace for just one day to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to promote their adoption from local shelters, rescue groups and humane societies.
