NAPLES, Fla. - The race for the White House made a stop in Southwest Florida.

Atlanta businessman Herman Cain met with local business owners at a private event on Fifth Avenue South.

"We have a group of supporters right here in Naples that I wanted to connect with," he said.

A frequent critic of big government Cain spoke about the need to grow small businesses. The former CEO of pizza-chain Godfathers also made the case against raising the debt ceiling.

He also says he supports overhauling medicare.

"The business sector has to lead this recovery. That's a fundamental truth. We cannot be spending beyond our means and that's a fundamental truth we have to talk about," Cain added. 

Cain is trailing in the field of Republican primary candidates, but early polling shows him running in 2nd in the all important Iowa Caucus.

Former Utah Governor John Huntsman also made a stop in Naples. The Republican held a private fundraiser after making a stop in Miami.

He also meet with supporters in Orlando.
