FORT MYERS, Fla. - Its an 8 week challenge that includes a number of Lee County educators.

Two teachers from Heights Elementary and a nutritional and health instructor with the school district are taking part in a boot-camp that is being offered at the Omni Gym in Fort Myers.

Sharon Baughman and Robyn Gurule have lost 52 pounds combined.

"That's a miracle. I've never really been able to lose weight and failed every time I tried. I got frustrated and I would just quit," said Baughman.

Mary Ann Bucceroni goes to schools through out the year and teaches students the importance of staying away from unhealthy foods and getting the right amount of exercise.

She's lost 30 pounds in just two months.

"This has made it much more positive for me because now I look more like a better role model. I couldn't hardly stand there and say you need to eat this when it looked like I had been eating potato chips," add Bucceroni.

Educators say the class is a perfect opportunity to serve as role models for students. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention more than 17% of children and adolescents in the U.S. are obese. The number is triple the rate one generation ago.

A new 8-week course gets underway next week at the Omni.
