COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.-The Naples man facing murder charges for slitting the throats of his wife and five kids was back in court Thursday morning.
Today, three doctors testified on his mental status.
One out of the three doctors told a packed courtroom Damas is incompetent to stand trial. Dr. Robert Silver believes Damas is mentally ill and has a delusional disorder.
"He is not here with us," said Dr. Silver.
Damas had eight outbursts throughout the three hour competency hearing. He mostly ranted about his religious beliefs.
"I don't have my sister, I don't have my wife, I don't have my children, I don't have none of those things. But I have one thing: I have Jesus in my life," said Damas.
But the two other doctors aren't buying his outbursts. They believe Damas is acting to avoid murder charges.
"There is not an underlying illness that prevents him from talking about something. He just doesn't want to talk about this[murder case]," said Dr. Michael Hervok.
The judge will decide next Thursday if Damas can stand trial.
