PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man who threatened a Punta Gorda Airport mechanic at Air Trek Ambulance Services with a shard of broken glass.
CCSO got a call from a mechanic working on a jet engine who said around 6:30 a.m. he saw a man walk into the hanger. He asked what he was doing and the man replied he worked for “A&D” and was investigating a break in at Air Trek. The man refused to present any identification and was ordered to leave the restricted area.
The mechanic followed the man out of the hanger and into the front office where he noticed broken glass on the floor. The unidentified man said this was his scene and he needed to investigate. The man pushed the mechanic in the chest after repeatedly being told to leave. The man then picked up a shard of glass and walked toward the mechanic in a threatening manner and held the glass near the mechanic’s face. He then threw it down and walked out and got into a Chevrolet S-10 pickup and drove off.
The mechanic told deputies the county tax receipt for Air Trek was in a picture frame on the wall and it was missing; the frame and broken glass were on the floor. A deputy patrolling the Jones Loop Road area by I-75/Exit-161 located the suspect’s pickup at 9909 Mac Drive and made a traffic stop. The mechanic was brought to the scene and positively identified the man who threatened him with the shard of glass.
The suspect was identified as Adam Richard Jones, 21, 334 Aylesbury Lane, Port Charlotte. A search of Jones found an Air Trek pamphlet on his person, and the Air Trek tax receipt was in plain view in his pickup. Jones was taken to the Charlotte County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Battery, Petit Theft, Trespass After Warning, and Driving While License Suspended. Jones remains in the County Jail on no bond; this is his 10th booking.
