LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Finally, some good news for job seekers this summer.
"We're seeing a lot more recruitment activity now. It's not only that they're talking about hiring, they actually are starting to do more hiring," Barbara Hartman of Southwest Florida Works said Wednesday.
A new Manpower Employment Outlook survey shows 19% of Lee County businesses are ready to hire. But along with that, 15% plan to cutback staff.
Over at South Seas Resort on Captiva, they're looking to fill 30 jobs immediately.
"We've got jobs across the board. We've got jobs that are related to the increase in occupancy. Housekeeping, food services, and so forth. But at the same time we are looking for other position, engineers and so forth that allow us to facilitate the infrastructure of the resort on a day to day basis," South Seas General Manager Richard Hayduk said Wednesday.
Some of the positions are seasonal, but Southwest Florida Works says temporary employment helps to bridge your resume and could possibly lead to a permanent position.
"Seasonal jobs of course have an extended life. But if an employer finds that person has the initiative and is building up their skills, they will consider them for a permanent position when it comes open," Hartman said.
And in a competitive market, South Seas shares a secret to landing a job.
"We want personality. Yes, you have to be able to do a good job of cleaning a room or fixing something or serving a plate of food, but with us we're also looking for that personality that's going to make a guest's experience memorable,"
