Perfect Game is bringing hundreds of people to City of Palms Park in Fort Myers.  The Boston Red Sox have abandoned that stadium  in favor of a bigger and new park off Daniels Parkway.   Perfect Game provides a use for the stadium, and dollars for the local economy.

"Perfect Game brings the best high school baseball players in America here," said Jeff Mielke of the Lee Co. sports authority.   "Plus we have parents and scouts from colleges and pro teams."

The youngsters show their skills at fielding, hitting and pitching.    Mielke estimates the event generates up to 1000 room nights in hotels, and 700-thousand dollars for the economy.   "Some parents bring the entire family, and spend several days here.   That's good for local restaurants and even tourist attractions," said Mielke.

Ed Crohan agrees.  He came from New York with his son.   "I love this stadium, it's good to put it to use.   And we are spending some dollars here in the Ft. Myers area," he told WINK.

Mielke also told us, Lee co. is trying to attract a college baseball tournament for next March.  That would generate 21 days of use at the park, while the Red Sox inaugurate their new spring training home.
