CAPE CORAL, Fla.-A Cape Coral man who plunged his Bronco into a canal Tuesday morning has died, according to hospital officials.

Cape Coral Police rescued 58-year-old James Brown from his SUV, after he drove it into a canal near Surfside Boulevard.

Brown was trapped inside as the vehicle sank to the bottom.

Cape police went into the water, pulled Brown from the vehicle, and gave him CPR. He was later brought to Cape Coral Hospital.

Witnesses say Brown was in the water for several minutes before being recovered.
