PUNTA GORDA Fla.- On Thursday, Charlotte County deputies arrested a 15 year old boy and charged him with sexual assault in connection with an incident at the South County Regional Park in Punta Gorda According to Sheriff's Office reports, a 6 year old boy had wet himself and was in the lobby of the parks office waiting for a change of clothes to be brought to him by his mother. He went to use the restroom and a 15 year old boy who was there swimming in the pool sexually assaulted the boy. Larry Timko has a 5 year old child in that same summer camp. He says he was concerned about the camps lack of communication. "I was furious cause I didn't know what was going on. We had to find out through the news outlets not through this program" said Timco.

But Elaine Jones, a spokeswoman for Charlotte County says counselors and staff did inform parents in person the next day as they dropped off their children. "We also had the Director there and the Assistant County Administrator there talking to all the parents," said Jones. The County also plans to hire one additional counselor for each location despite the fact that the staff levels already exceed state minimum standards. They are also stressing the use of the "buddy system" of using the restroom in pairs. The county is also planning a meeting at the park on Tuesday night at 6:00 P.M. for parents who may still have concerns. Timco says that despite the alleged crime. He plans to keep his child in the program calling the case an "isolated indecent".
