PUNTA GORDA, Fla - The Charlotte County Sheriff's Aviation Unit helicopter, using its FLIR night vision equipment, located a 90 year old man reported missing Thursday night.

CCSO received a call at 9:50 p.m. from relatives who said they last saw Clinton D. Greenbank, 17450 White Water Court, Punta Gorda at 6 p.m. (The Prairie Creek area is east of Punta Gorda off Washington Loop Road). The family said he left the home in a golf cart to go fishing at a pond on the rear of his property but had not returned. The family searched the area and located the golf cart behind a neighbor’s residence but could not find him; they then called the CCSO.

Several deputies and a K9 Unit responded and then called CCSO Aviation to assist. Helicopter Pilot Deputy Roger Jernigan, along with spotter Sgt. Jill McBee, used the heat seeking FLIR equipment. At 10:27 p.m., the equipment showed a person about 200 feet inside a heavily wooded area quite a distance from the home and pond. Greenbank was lying beneath Palmetto bushes, got up and started waving at the helicopter. Pilot Jernigan guided ground searching officers to his exact location. He was checked out by EMS and then reunited with his family.
