FORT MYERS, Fla.-A Fort Myers chiropractor has a serious warning for thieves who return for his AC units.

Dr. Steven Atwood has hung a banner in front of his office saying "Do Not Steal My Air-Conditioners off my roof OR I'll BREAK YOUR NECK."

"I used to crack necks when I played football in college. Now I can adjust necks back in place," he says.

Atwood says crooks visited his office last Monday and stripped 5 of the 6 air conditioners on the roof.

"Last Wednesday it got up to 93 degrees in here," Atwood says.

The heat did not faze the doctor, until it got too hot to see all his patients. He says he had to give his staff days off and lost 5 clients in the two weeks it took to fix the AC.

That's when he decided to reach out to whoever ripped him off with the ominous sign.

People who work in Atwood's office say the move is right up the doctor's alley.

"We didn't think he was actually going to do it," says Maria Madrigal. "When he came in here with the sign, we just started laughing.

The banner is meant to tickle the funny bone, but Atwood hopes it sends a serious message too.

"There's something wrong with this picture when people are making a profession out of stealing people's air conditioners out of their houses," he says.

So while he's taken an oath to do no harm, he says that will not stop him from detaining thieves until police arrive -- using any force necessary.
