PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A 21 year old local soldier is in the hospital after falling 20 feet from a rock climbing wall.

The serviceman, said to be on leave after serving in Afghanistan, fell after a safety cable snapped at the Kidstar Amusement park in Port Charlotte Saturday afternoon.

The man fell backward onto a platform after climbing 2/3 of the way up the 30 foot obstacle.

"He went up, the cable snapped and it was a freak accident that happened the cable snapped and he just fell down," said Abraham Qureshi, the parks manager.

Its unknown what the mans injuries are but he was said to have been responsive and able to move his legs and arms after the fall.

He is expected to spend the next few nights in the hospital and is listed in fair condition.
