TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Fire officials are fighting more than 250 active wildfires around Florida and smoke from the fires is drifting throughout the state.

Kristin Bennett of the Florida Division of Forestry says lack of rain is exacerbating the fire risk. Some fires from the Orlando area are pushing smoke toward the Tampa area.

Fire officials warned that 2011 would be a busy year for wildfires.

So far, Florida has seen nearly 2,500 wildfires on state and federal land, burning more than 125,000 acres.
