MIAMI (AP) - The attorney representing a Miami man charged with killing his 10-year-old adoptive daughter has stepped down from the case citing a conflict of interest.
Edith Georgie was representing Jorge Barahona. He declined to elaborate on why he stepped down Friday, saying it would be unethical.
A new attorney has not yet been appointed.
Jorge Barahona and his wife have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and several abuse and neglect charges for allegedly beating their daughter Nubia to death while her twin brother, Victor, heard her screams from the bathroom.
Nubia's naked, decomposing body was found in her father's truck alongside a busy highway on Valentine's Day. Victor survived, but suffered severe burns from a toxic acid.
Hundreds of documents were released Wednesday detailing the months before the crime.
