That's after one shopping center is hit by burglars for the 4th time in 1 month!
Thieves keep taking the a/c units.
A growing problem in Southwest Florida.
Jeff Avery, the owner or Hurricane Cycle says, "I'm letting them have it, it makes no sense to dial 911, I'll dial 911 for them, because they're going to need it."
Avery says his business hurricane cycle is the only one of at least a dozen that hasn't had it's A/C unit stolen.
He says, "Obviously I'm next."
That's why with baseball bat in hand, he's setting up surveillance cameras out back.
"Apparently vigilante justice is what we're left with."
He's not the only one frustrated.
Sheriff's office statistics show this year so far there have been 445 incidents of ac units, stripped and stolen, up from 408 last year.
Sheriff Mike Scott says the growing problem hasn't gone unnoticed.
Scott says, "I can tell you as is the history and practice of our sheriff's office, we won't pussyfoot around, this will be a no nonsense effort to address this issue with swift certainly."how we specifically get to that point, obviously we'd rather not sit here and discuss all that."
Don Taylor, the owner of Trophy Center ,who bears the heat now with a single fan, is losing work.
He says, "Currently I'm kind of out of business."
He says the lasers that design his trophys don't work without A/C. His was stolen in this latest wave of thefts.
"I'm the fourth incident in this plaza in the past month."
He's hoping it will be the last.
I't's incredibly annoying!"
