FORT MYERS, Fla. -UPDATE: Further investigation has led to more charges in the shooting that happened at the Sabal Palm Apartments on Sunday, May 15. Police have arrested Henry Thomas Jr., 19, Isaiah Thomas, 18, and a 16-year-old male who will remain unidentified because he is a minor. The three suspects have been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The three males are Fort Myers residents.
Police have identified the three as the suspects responsible for the shooting that injured two children in the neighborhood. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending involving the case.
ORIGINAL: Two people have been arrested in connection with a shooting on Sunday on Sabal Palm Boulevard that left two young children injured.
Isaiah Thomas, 18, of Fort Myers was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and firing a weapon or deadly missile into a dwelling.
An unnamed 17-year-old male has been arrested for a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of a weapon by a minor.
Police are still looking for a third suspect.
Lee Memorial Hospital was placed on lockdown Sunday afternoon. So many people showed up at the hospital while the two shooting victims were being treated, that officers were called and the hospital was on lockdown for more than an hour.
The shooting happened in a parking lot on the 3700 block of Sabal Palm Boulevard around 2 p.m. Fort Myers police say two children, ages 2 and 5, suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.
Upon arrival, police learned that two adults and two children were outside the apartment complex when two suspects approached and began shooting at them. The shooting does not appear to be random. However, the children were innocent bystanders.
Police are still interviewing witnesses and following leads in the case.
