COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- The fire chief and six firefighters with the Immokalee Fire Control District have been laid off as of Friday due to budget cuts.
In addition to the employee layoffs, Fire Station 31 has been closed. This station served 232 square miles of Immokalee and Ave Maria.
Fifteen firefighters remain following the layoffs.
More cuts are possible after an emergency meeting, which is scheduled for May 24.
