FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers will promote participation in a contest to win 10-thousand dollars for the fourth of July fireworks and celebration.    The effort is sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance company.

The contest, called  bring back the fourth,  poses eight questions about american history -- one is:   who was most instrumental in the underground railroad that brought slaves to the north before the civil war:   Harriett Tubman, Sojourner Truth, or__matilda gage..
     The answer is Tubman.
The top three medium-sized cities,  that get the most people to go on line and take the quiz,  each wins  10-thousand dollars.    The  winners can can use the money for fireworks, or other fourth of july cleebrations.
Last year, fort myers did not have fireworks-- funding fell thru.  This year, the river district alliance has put aside 30-thousand for fireworks, but it also could use the 10-grand from liberty, to enhance the block party on the fourth.
Jamie Kusar of the alliance says:    it's a great idea, and you only have to take the quiz...that counts as a vote for your city,  even if you get all eight questions wrong!
We talked with some opeople in downtown fort myers -- they agreee:   knowledge of american history is limited.      Fort myers may have an advantage with one question.   It asks~:  who was the wizard of menlo park?
That of course, was thomas edison...who spent many winters in fort myers in his later years.
