LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Florida's senators are teaming up to make it easier for seniors to file their taxes.

Republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Bill Nelson introduced their first bill together that would create a new 1040SR form. The bi-partisan effort would allow seniors to file their Social Security benefits, dividends and capital gains.

Currently, seniors cannot file the one page 1040EZ because it does not include a line for pension and social security income.

The AARP supports the measure.

"Seniors are unable to use the short form. They have to spend more time and more money to file their taxes. This bill would correct that and make it much simple for them to file their taxes," said Cristina Martin-Firvida with AARP.

A similar bill in the House is getting support from both parties.
