FORT MYERS, Fla.-- A new Lee Physician Group medical office is now open in the Dunbar community, adding essential primary care services to area residents which offer the opportunity to establish an ongoing relationship with a primary care clinician and allow access to quality disease management programs.
The medical practice occupies the space that previously housed the Family Health Centers' Paul Lawrence Dunbar Clinic, on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. and Veronica Shoemaker Boulevards (3511 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard).
Services offered include adult primary care, diabetes management, asthma, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and labs and other diagnostic testing. It will be open Monday through Friday and additional weekend hours may be added in the future. Lee Memorial Health System's electronic health records system is operational at the clinic and will be helpful in coordinating care between the clinic, emergency department, and hospitals.
The office is supervised by Aldith Lewis, D.O., who is board certified in internal medicine and brings more than a decade of experience to her position. An Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and a case manager will be available on a daily basis.
By placing the office in a central community location, Lee Physician Group is bringing health services to areas where the need is greatest. Dr. Lewis says, "Our goal is to focus on preventive care. We encourage area residents to seek treatment for their health care problems before they become serious enough to send them to the emergency department."
The Dunbar Lee Physician Group office shares space with the Dunbar United Way House, which allows for a synergy of caring for both the medical and social service needs of area residents. Social services available at the Dunbar House include Community Cooperative Ministries, Salvation Army, WeCare, National Alliance for Mental Illness and United Way, which assists with referrals for a wide range of needs.
Lee Physician Group accepts all private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. A sliding fee scale is available for patients without insurance. Patients will not be turned away because of an inability to pay. Children will not be seen at this location. Pediatric cases are referred to Family Health Centers' Downtown Family Medical & Dental Offices.
Office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Appointments are required, and same day appointments are available. Appointments can be made by calling 239-343-4910.
