LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A 50-acre brush fire broke out Friday afternoon in Lehigh Acres near Alico Road and Devore Lane, according to Division of Forestry. The fire is 70 percent contained.

DOF is recommending that local residents evacuate, although the evacuations are not mandatory.

A spokesperson from the Red Cross said 10-15 homes may be threatened. Volunteers are loading up an emergency response behicle to the Hilton Garden Inn on Treeline and Alico.

A helicopter is dropping water on the fire because of its location, which is difficult for firefighters to access.

The fire likely rekindled from a lightning strike on Thursday.
