NAPLES, Fla. -- Several families are without a home after a fire guts an east Naples apartment complex.

The fire happened just after 12 a.m. Monday on Washington Avenue. Tenant Jerry Lexow ran to each of the units, making sure everyone was out safe.

He then tried to rescue his cats but three of them died. A woman who lived in one of the rentals said Lexow saved her life..

"He was screaming at me get out, get out its bad. and when i look at the other units, at the end of the building, they are completely gutted. i'm just lucky to be alive.," said Isa Fields, who survived the fire.

The fire has been ruled accidental. The American Red Cross is helping the families in need.
