EAST ENGLEWOOD, Fla - UPDATE 3:30 p.m.
Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies continue rerouting traffic around the semi traveling westbound toward Englewood when it was struck by a car at the intersection of S.R. 776 and David Blvd. around 1:30 p.m. this afternoon. Driver of the car, a woman about 65 years of age was flown by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital Trauma Center.
CCSO deputies report the westbound lanes of S.R. 776 are still blocked by the semi; traffic is being rerouted by deputies but the eastbound lanes toward Port Charlotte are moving slowly. Hazmat team is cleaning up fuel leaked from the semi. FHP is on scene and will have details later.

The call was received at 1:31 p.m. and there are injuries. Helicopter just landed to take two patients to the Lee Memorial Hospital Trauma Center.
The semi is blocking northbound S.R.776 but the CCSO Watch Commander says traffic is moving very slowly in the area with deputies directing traffic.
The semi took a direct hit to the fuel tank and fuel is spilling onto the ground; Charlotte County Hazmat is now on scene. No other details are available.
