FORT MYERS, Fla.- UPDATE: Police have arrested Da'waun Williams, 21, for culpable negligence.
Police have learned that the gun used in the shooting belonged to Williams. More arrests are pending in this case.
Police had previously arrested Emmit Scott, 23, of Fort Myers, for child neglect.
Police learned that a 3-year-old boy was playing with a gun that was left on a couch and accidentally shot the two-year-old victim. Scott was one of the caregivers of the victim at the time of the shooting.
The Fort Myers Police Department received a call from Lee Memorial Hospital in reference to a 2-year-old boy who had been brought to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the shoulder on Tuesday at 12:10 a.m.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the toddler was shot inside an apartment located at 3049 Second Street #3.
Four adults and another child were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting.
Detectives have executed a search warrant at the apartment and have located a revolver and a semiautomatic handgun.
Police believe the shooting was accidental.
Detectives are still in the process of interviewing those involved and charges are pending in the case.
The victim has been transported to Health Park Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
