COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - Collier County has a new interim superintendent tonight. The school board voted Dennis Thompson out this morning, several months before his contract was up.

Evaluations, performance, and poor morale are just a few of the reasons why Thompson was fired today.

Soon after, the board named 40-year Collier school veteran Gary Brown as his temporary replacement.

Brown was assisting the new principal at Everglade's City School, but also served as principal at Naples High for 30 years.

Although his stint may be short, about two months, Brown has lots of work to do. Budgets, staffing, and FCAT testing are all some of the subjects on his plate.

Brown will receive his day rate of pay $437, plus a $2,000 a month supplement while on the job.

The four candidates vying for the permanent position will be in town Monday, and the public has an opportunity for a meet and greet on Tuesday.
