PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a Miami man Wednesday for Trafficking in Counterfeit Credit Cards, and Forgery of Credit Cards. Deputies were called to the Port Charlotte Wal-Mart on a report of four people who left the store after trying to purchase gift cards using credit cards that were denied. A BOLO was issued for a blue Suzuki SUV; a detective located and made a traffic stop at 1057 Collingswood Blvd. at 6:30 p.m.
Driver of the SUV was Richard Deetjen, 28, of Miami, who consented to searching the vehicle with three passengers. Detectives said the vehicle was full of recently purchased goods, electronics, cigarettes, clothing and miscellaneous items from various locations around Florida. Also found in the SUV were numerous credit cards and gift cards, and in the possession of Deetjen. Detectives said all of the credit cards were fraudulent and were not the original bank cards as indicated on the front of each card. Detectives said 11 counterfeit credit cards were in Deetjen’s name.
Deetjen was transported to the Charlotte County Jail; the three passengers were released, pending further investigation. Deetjen was additionally charged with Driving on a Suspended License. He remains in jail on an $8,000 bond.
