PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.-- The southbound lanes of I-75 before Kings Highway in Port Charlotte were shut down for several minutes Tuesday as emergency crews landed a rescue helicopter on the interstate.

Charlotte County Fire and EMS Spokeswoman Dee Hawkins says a car rolled over while traveling on the interstate. The driver of the vehicle was ejected. There were no other passengers in the car and no other vehicles involved in the wreck.

Hawkins says the driver is a female in her twenties. It's not clear if she was wearing a seat belt at the time. It is believed she suffered head injuries. She was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital as a trauma alert.

The southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down at about 7:30 am to make room for Med-Star to land. They were re-opened before 8 o'clock.
