TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Former U.S. Senator George LeMieux is launching his first campaign for the job he held briefly following Sen. Mel Martinez resignation in 2009.
LeMieux announced Tuesday he plans to run in 2012 for two-term Democrat U.S. Bill Nelson's seat.
He says he believes the country is on the verge of financial collapse and that he is the only Republican candidate with the Washington experience to tackle with the problem.
LeMieux was appointed in September 2009 to replace Mel Martinez by then-Gov. Charlie Crist. US Sen. Marco Rubio was elected last year to fill that seat.
