COLLIER COUNTY, Fla - Jonathan Nativi, an eighth grade student at Seacrest Country Day School, is the 2011 Collier County Spelling Bee Champion, winning the crown for a second year in a row during the Collier County Spelling Bee held last evening at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Administrative Center in Naples. The winning word: utterance. North Naples Middle School seventh grader Princeton Ballarino came in a close second for a second year in a row.

Some 50 contestants – sixth, seventh, and eighth graders from 18 Collier County middle schools – were vying for the title. They qualified for the county competition by winning spelling bees in their individual schools.

Jonathan Nativi now advances to the 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., beginning June 1st, courtesy of event-sponsor Naples Daily News.

The Spelling Bee was televised live on The Education Channel, Comcast cable 99, and online at www.collierschools.com. It can be seen as an online Webisode at any time beginning Monday (March 21st). The telecast will be replayed on TV at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday (March 17th) and Friday (March 18th). It will be replayed this weekend at 6 p.m. on Sunday (March 20th).
