CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.- NASA is moving up the unveiling of the first humanoid robot in space.
Space station astronaut Catherine Coleman said Friday everyone wants to get R2, the robot, out as soon as possible. R2 flew to the International Space Station aboard Discovery.
In a phone call Thursday, President Barack Obama teased the astronauts for waiting to unpack the robot.
NASA initially was going to keep R2 boxed up for a few months. Coleman is uncertain the robot will emerge before Discovery undocks Monday.
This is Discovery's final voyage. It's being retired and sent to the Smithsonian Institution.
NASA will announce April 12 where the two other space shuttles will wind up. That's the 30th anniversary of the first shuttle flight.
