The Boston Red Sox announced a weeklong series of events and activities from Feb. 21-25 that will give back to communities throughout Lee County and Southwest Florida. Highlights of the week include a free open house at City of Palms Park; uniformed personnel and front office staff volunteering at nonprofits across Lee County; and two longtime fundraising efforts that will help children in need throughout Southwest Florida.
“Lee County is not only our Spring Training site, but it is a place we call our baseball home 365 days a year, and we’re thrilled that roots planted here in 1993 will continue to grow deeper in the community over the next 30 years,” said Larry Lucchino, Red Sox President/CEO. “Every year at this time, we join our friends and neighbors in Lee County to celebrate the start of the Major League Baseball season. We are excited about the upcoming Red Sox Week of Community Service, which will highlight the good work of organizations in Lee County that, every day, are serving people here who are most in need.”
The week will begin Monday, Feb. 21, with the team’s third annual Spring Training Open House at City of Palms Park, a free event featuring a variety of family-friendly activities. Tuesday, Feb. 22 and Thursday, Feb. 24, Red Sox uniformed personnel and front office staff will spend the afternoon volunteering at PACE Center for Girls, Community Cooperative Ministries Inc.’s Everyday Marketplace and Montessori Preschool, Eden Autism Services School and Alliance for the Arts. The Red Sox Week of Community Service calendar also includes two long-time Red Sox charitable events - the sixth annual Evening with the Red Sox benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County Wednesday, Feb. 23 and the 18th annual Boston Red Sox Children’s Hospital Celebrity Classic golf tournament benefiting The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida Friday, Feb. 25.
