FORT MYERS, Fla. - An elderly woman returned home on Valentine's Day to realize her villa had been robbed and the thieves took took some of her most sentimental valuables.
Viola Thompson says she was at the bank for an hour before returning to her Bogey Drive home and noticing her front door had been pried open.
"It looked awful and I could see that some of the wood was down on the floor and the lock was really broken," said Thompson.
The senior citizen says the thieves took a gold engagement and wedding ring worth $5,000 along with $8,000 worth of other jewelery.
"I just cried because I couldn't imagine that anyone would be taking those rings from me," said Thompson.
No arrests have been made in the case. Thompson says she expects to get a new door this week - while family members are hoping to install a new security system at the villa as well.
