FORT MYERS- The Fort Myers Police Department is looking for a man who stole thousands of dollars from a local business.

It happened at the International Diamond Exchange located at 4480 Cleveland Avenue.

An unknown man walked into the store wanting to exchange gold coins and gold chains for cash. The items were inspected and weighed. Then a price was negotiated for $17,500. However, at some point during the transaction the real gold was replaced with costume jewelry that had the same weight and appearance.

The man fled the store with the cash leaving the costume jewelry behind along with his fake identification card.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late 40’s or early 50’s. He was wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and a white ball cap. He may have left the scene in a white SUV.
