COLLIER COUNTY- Dozens of people turned out for the sentencing of James Menard on Friday. Menard is the Naples man who has been found guilty of killing 17-year-old Jake Couture.

The family of Couture and another teen shot that night addressed Menard prior to his sentencing.

Couture's dad held up a large picture of Jake in the courtroom while Jake's parents talked about the unimaginable pain of losing a child.

Menard was sentenced with the mandatory life sentence of the murder charge plus another 35 years for additional charges.

Menard showed no reaction to his sentence until his own family got up to speak. At that time, he begged the judge not to give him a life sentence.

Menard's family said their goodbyes without anyone in the courtroom.
