CAPE CORAL, FL - Rowdy parties, people coming and going at all hours and in some cases trash and trespassing, all complaints some Cape residents have about short term residential rentals. With the large number of foreclosures in the area, a number of investors have purchased homes and are using them as short term vacation rentals. Neighbors are not so happy with the idea. Some have voiced their concerns with Councilmembers and want something to be done.

Councilman Kevin McGrail says he's listening. He has proposed a voluntary registration of short term rental homes, where property management companies would not only hand out written material on city ordinances to renters, but would be accountable if renters break the rules.

McGrail says if the voluntary system does not solve the problem, he will look to draft an ordinance that would make it mandatory for property managers to register. He says he will also look to require rental homes to be inspected by the city before they are rented.
