FORT MYERS- A frantic search for a man who tried to kidnap a child from a Fort Myers school.

Police canvassed the are near Allen Park Elementary School looking for the suspect.  

The school is on Canelo Drive, near US 41, in Fort Myers.

Parents of children at the school are shocked by the incident.

"For someone to come and try to abduct a kid, that is scary," said one parent.

The boy student says a man tried to lure him into a car.

It happened at a school function Thursday afternoon.

All day Friday, Fort Myers Police were at Allen Park Elementary interviewing people about the incident.

Detectives also patrolled the area on foot, going door to door questioning neighbors.

The suspect was last seen driving a black, newer model VW Beetle.

His car had a Florida license plate with a golfer on it.

The child described the suspect as a middle aged white male, salt and pepper hair, goatee, about six feet tall.

He was wearing a multi-colored shirt with green pants and had a tattoo of an eye on the inside of his right ankle.

The principal of Allen Park Elementary sent a letter home to parents on Friday about the incident.
In the letter, the principal says she wasn't told about the possible abduction until well after the school day ended on Thursday.

She adds, they are reviewing procedures to ensure they provide a safe and secure environment for staff and students at the school.

Anyone with information about the suspect or this incident is urged to call Fort Myers Police immediately.
