FT. MYERS - A Fort Myers man is dead after becoming the target of shooting.
It happened at the Palmetto Court Housing Complex on Starnes Avenue.
We've learned the man shot is 39 year old Johnny Jackson. Police say he and another man got into an argument late Thursday afternoon, that ended with Jackson dead and another man on the loose.
"When they was outside, the guy came over here arguing with my son-in-law some more, and the guy just pulled a gun and shot him," Jackson's mother-in-law Adrienne Vecchione said.
It all happened around 5:15 p.m. Neighbors say they didn't notice anything unusual until they heard gunshots.
"When I got here Johnny was laying on the ground face down, bleeding," Vecchione said.
39 year old Johnny Jackson II was rushed to the hospital, but later died. According to Vecchione, it was his daughter's 2nd birthday. "I called the hospital and my granddaughter said he's gone grandma, he's dead." She told us, Jackson was attending Sunstate and aspired to be a Cosmetologist. She said he was a family man, crazy about his children.
The man who shot Jackson is still on the loose. But thanks to several witnesses, police know who they're looking for. "It's sad that people in society like this think they have to figure out their problems at the end of a gun, and take somebody's life and possibly put others in harm's way," Sgt. Sean Hoover of FMPD said.
