FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - The mother of a Florida teen who authorities say was brutally attacked by another student has filed a lawsuit against the Broward County school board.

Hilda Gotay, the mother of 16-year-old Josie Lou Ratley, says the school board was negligent in failing to provide adequate security and supervision of students.

Gotay alleges in a complaint filed Thursday that as a result of the board's negligence, Ratley suffered permanent injuries. The lawsuit says Ratley is "permanently and totally disabled."

A spokeswoman for Broward County Public Schools declined to comment, citing ongoing litigation.

Authorities have charged Wayne Treacy with attempted murder. He has been charged as an adult and faces a maximum of 50 years in prison. Gotay is seeking damages in excess of $15,000.
