UPDATE: A 25-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with the attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl in Golden Gate Estates last fall.
Travis Michael Morgan, of 170 1st St. S.W., Golden Gate Estates, was arrested on a warrant charging him with child abuse.
Detectives said Morgan grabbed the girl from behind as she was riding her bicycle from a friend's house in the 400 block of 1st Street Southwest around 6 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2010.
Detectives said Morgan pushed the girl onto the ground and covered her mouth with his hands. He released her after a dog began barking due to her screams. The girl received abrasions to her elbows and knees as she struggled to get away.
Detectives with the Collier County Sheriff's Office's Special Victim's Unit conducted an investigation, which included neighborhood canvasses and interviews of residents. Crime scene investigators processed the scene.
The investigation revealed evidence and testimony sufficient to present this investigation to the State Attorney's Office. Prosecutors approved an arrest warrant charging Morgan with child abuse. A judge approved the arrest warrant Thursday.
Detectives located Morgan at his residence around 2:30 p.m. and took him into custody.
His arrest report and jail photo will be released when they are available.
