ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Police have tentatively identified the man suspected of killing two Florida police officers and wounding a U.S. marshal during a shootout.

St. Petersburg Police spokesman Michael Puetz says officers went to arrest 39-year-old Hydra Lacy Jr. at a house Monday morning. He says investigators believe Lacy is the person who opened fire from the attic, but they haven't confirmed that.

Police believe the shooter is still barricaded inside the house.

The officers were taken to the hospital, where they died. Officials say the wounded marshal is in stable condition.

Court records show Lacy failed to appear for a scheduled trial on an aggravated battery charge in November.

State records show Lacy has a lengthy record that includes convictions for sexual battery and other violent crimes.
