WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say two undercover sheriff's deputies were shot at after two suspects identified them as law enforcement and followed them for a confrontation.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera says the suspects in Thursday night's shooting "clearly knew we were law enforcement."

The undercover detectives were working on an unrelated robbery case when the two men spotted them working on a laptop inside their vehicle. Officials say the men followed the officers and fired at least two shots, hitting the windshield of the unmarked vehicle.

The officers did not fire back and were not injured.

The sheriff's spokeswoman says a vehicle believed to belong to one of the shooters was recovered late Thursday. An investigation continues.
