A resident of the City of Naples was recently the victim of a "Bank Examiner" scam.

She was telephoned by a person who claimed to work for her bank and got her to withdrawal several thousand dollars to aid in the "investigation". She realized towards the end that it was a scam, but she had already given the subject the money.

The Naples Police Department would like to remind residents to be alert to these types of scams. Banks will not use private citizens or private funds while conducting investigations. Be very cautious of people asking for personal information over the telephone especially if the call was unsolicited. Watch out for products, services or investments accompanied by offers of great value or financial rewards.

Scams often play on a person's good will or offer to help, it is important to remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
