IMMOKALEE, Fla. - A prominent Golden Gate Estates man is accused of molesting a young child at a school where he volunteers. 60-year old Robert Alter reportedly sexually molested a student at Highlands Elementary School in Immokalee. Tonight, investigators say there could be more victims.

"I just can't picture it. I would trust him with my own children," neighbor Louise Bufalieri said Thursday.

Admist manicured lawns and quiet streets, Bob Alter resides in Golden Gates Waterway community. Friends call him a model neighbor, but Collier County Sheriff's Office says the elementary school volunteer has ill intentions...sexually abusing at least one student.

"I don't believe it. Not Bob. He loves children," neighbor Ada Bognaski said Thursday.

Alter is being charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious molestation on a victim under the age of 12. The Sheriff's Office says they received information last week that a student was being sexually molested by a volunteer at Highlands Elementary.

"He talked to me about how he volunteers and he sounded really excited about volunteering for the school and helping the children and stuff," Bognaski said.

The Sheriff's Office is now investigating whether there are any other victims at the school, or at Pinecrest Elementary, where Alter's daugther is a Physical Education teacher.

"They are not the family to do those things. He's always working around his house, he's a home man. He doesn't go out. He volunteered a lot in our neighborhood," neighbor Vincent Bufalieri said.

Neighbors say they refuse to believe the allegations of sexual abuse, describing Alter as a family man...happily married with children, and two grandsons of his own.

"He's wonderful. He takes them fishing. He does everything with the children. He just loves children," Bognaski said.

Collier County School District has removed Alter as a volunteer. The District could not confrim that they do background checks on all of their volunteers.
