CAPE CORAL, Fla.-- Friends and family of the Lee County Sheriff's Deputy killed in a motorcycle accident last week gathered for a memorial service in Cape Coral Tuesday.

Scott Wheeler, 24, died when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Pine Island Road and Skyline Blvd. in Cape Coral just after 6 pm on January 12th.

The other driver involved in the wreck was not injured or charged.

Authorities believe speed may have been a factor in the crash.

Wheeler joined L.C.S.O. in October 2008 as part of the Corrections Office division.

The Sheriff's Office says he will be sorely missed.

Wheeler's pregnant fiancee, Sarah Claus, issued the following statement: "Scott was the most amazing spouse, father, son, brother, uncle, best friend and sheriff's deputy. He is survived by his fiancee Sarah, his two children and a baby on the way. Also surviving are Scott's mother and father, step-father, brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. Scott will be remembered as the strongest, funniest, and biggest-hearted person we all know. He will be so incredibly missed and never forgotten."

The family has opened a memorial account at Fifth-Third Bank under "Sheriff's Deputy Wheeler Memorial Fund."
